Niagara asphalt plant nixed after pushback from community that wasn’t consulted

Following a great deal of opposition, the Town of Niagara has reversed its position on a proposed asphalt plant being developed by AL Asphalt.

Residents and numerous community groups were concerned about the environmental hazards from the plant, which was originally planned for the Town of Hamburg. However, vehement resident opposition forced the plant to find a new location.

Is history being shown the door in North Tonawanda?

“When the North Tonawanda History Museum bought the building at 54 Webster Street, it was scoffed at for paying $675,000,” says N.T. History Museum member Audrey Monkiewicz. “Some of the original board members immediately walked away, expecting it to fail. Outdoor art project on Oliver Street will be completed by summer’s end

There is a hidden jewel in the heart of North Tonawanda’s Oliver Street business district called the Project 308 Art Gallery (above).

On Saturday, the gallery played host to an event to raise money to have a large piece of artwork created that is intended to adorn the side of a building near the gallery at 308 Oliver St.

Natalie Brown, NT native and a graduate of U.B.’s masters degree program, is the gallery’s founder and owner.

Brown said she became involved with the arts by studying art history and museum studies for graduate school.
