Outdoor art project on Oliver Street will be completed by summer’s end

There is a hidden jewel in the heart of North Tonawanda’s Oliver Street business district called the Project 308 Art Gallery (above).

On Saturday, the gallery played host to an event to raise money to have a large piece of artwork created that is intended to adorn the side of a building near the gallery at 308 Oliver St.

Natalie Brown, NT native and a graduate of U.B.’s masters degree program, is the gallery’s founder and owner.

Brown said she became involved with the arts by studying art history and museum studies for graduate school.

Oliver Street cleanup 10 a.m. Saturday; Canal Clean Sweep spruced up three locations

Everyone agrees Oliver Street is the next area of North Tonawanda that needs the sustained attention of the city and all the communities here.

Join the Oliver Street Merchants Assoc. and Project Pride at 10 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Tremont St. and Oliver as they beautify the area that once was a vibrant blend of businesses and residences. Oliver Street property first in Lumber City’s ‘responsible owner’ program

“If you put it in the auction you lose control of it,” said City Attorney Luke Brown about foreclosed city-owned properties. “You don’t know who’s going to bid on it. Maybe you get another five to ten grand but you may not get a responsible owner.”

At Tuesday’s workshop, the council listened to Lumber City Development Director Mike Zimmerman recommend 653 Oliver Street be sold for $1,000 to Matt Bille, who said he owns seven properties in North Tonawanda.
